Take a hike through the ancient woodland, cloaked in mystery and alive with tales of hermits, dragons and demons thought to reside amidst the crags. The circular path rises steeply, leading to St David’s Well, a natural spring and hermit’s retreat believed to have been used by St Cuthbert in the early days of Christianity. The well is named after a local laird who occupied the area in the 15th century, living as a hermit in one of the hillside caves.
